Israel’s Line of Violence in Palestine
From 1988 to October 18, 2023, 83% of total casualties in the Zionist regime’s wars against the Palestinian nation were Palestinians. In other words, during these years, 15,726 Palestinians and 3,159 Israelis were killed. ۱ Over the timeline of violence (from 1988 to November 22, 2023), in both wartime and non-wartime conditions, a total of 26,521 Palestinians were martyred.۲
Killing of Journalists by the Israeli Regime
One of the crimes the Zionist regime commits brazenly before the world is the murder of journalists. Between 2000 and 2022, at least 44 journalists were killed by the Israeli regime. Fourteen of them were killed outside their workplace, and no one has been held accountable for their murders.
Some of the killed journalists, including well-known figures and even non-Palestinians, are:
- James Miller (Henry Dominic): He was killed by the Israeli army with a gunshot to the neck while filming a documentary in Gaza in 2003.
- Yasser Mortaja: He was killed by Israeli snipers with a gunshot to the abdomen while covering the Gaza Return March in 2018.
- Shireen Abu Akleh: A prominent Palestinian-American journalist who worked for the Arabic-language Al Jazeera network for 25 years, she was killed in 2022 by a gunshot to the head from the Israeli army while covering Israeli incursions in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.۳
According to statistics up to November 21, 2023, 53 journalists (46 Palestinians, 4 Israelis, and 3 Lebanese) and over 100 UN personnel, alongside approximately 15,000 Palestinians, have been killed in attacks following Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Even peacekeeping groups like UNRWA have not been spared from the violence of the Israeli army, with several of their personnel killed or injured.
One of the Israeli regime’s crimes targeted Palestinians who were displaced from their homes in the past. Despite being close to their homes, they were forced to risk their lives to return. 70% of Gaza’s Palestinians are refugees whose families were expelled from their homes in villages surrounding Gaza by Zionist forces in 1948, and the Israeli regime has never allowed them to return. In March 2018, Palestinians launched the Great “Return” March, a series of weekly mass protests demanding the right to return and an end to the blockade of Gaza by the Israeli regime.
However, the Israeli response was bloodshed! Israeli forces, using live and rubber bullets and tear gas, killed 217 Palestinian protesters and injured 36,100 others. 68% of those killed (147 Palestinians) were refugees, while the rest were non-refugee Palestinians.۴
