Banks, Partners in Crime with the Israeli Regime
European pension funds invest in illegal Israeli settlements through Israeli banks. In other words, European pension funds, after people deposit their savings, invest in Israeli banks and thus become partners in the Zionists’ crimes and atrocities.
For example, in January 2017, five major European pension funds invested 7.5 billion dollars in Israeli banks and other commercial companies active in Israeli settlements. This is while, according to the official positions of the European Union based on international laws, all Israeli settlement activities are illegal and must be stopped immediately.
Israeli banks assist Zionist settlements in Palestinian territory in three ways, which are discussed below:
- Financing Settlement Construction: Seven major Israeli banks provide special loans for building Israeli settlements and settlement infrastructure in the West Bank, on lands confiscated by the Israeli regime.
- Granting Facilities to Israeli Settlers for Relocation: Israeli banks collect and hold buyers’ down payments. They then provide mortgages and other facilities to settlers and settlement councils. However, holders of Palestinian identity cards are effectively barred from visiting or living in the settlements.
- Providing Financial Services to Israeli Settlements: At least 16 branches of Israeli banks operate in 6 settlements in the West Bank. Additionally, banks provide services to Israeli settlements through digital means (without the need for physical branches).
Israeli banks’ refusal to withdraw from partnership in Zionist crimes is because they and their investors profit from gross violations of international laws and Palestinian human rights.1
Charities for Occupation!
American charities are also on the list of entities that provide financial assistance for building Israeli settlements and thus spend donations on occupation! Financial aid from American charities is given to the Central Fund of Israel (CFI), a non-profit charitable organization registered in New York that finances Israeli settlement activities. Below are examples of these aids:
- Financial aid to the Ateret Cohanim organization under the title “Financial support for redeeming land in Palestinian areas to expand greater Jewish presence,” which is effectively spent on illegal settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories and expelling Palestinians.
- Financial aid to the Efrat Development Foundation under the title “Financial support for agricultural projects to meet the daily vital needs of Zionist pioneers,” which is effectively spent on illegal settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories.
- Financial aid to the Efrat Development Foundation under the title “Financial support for upgrading settlement security devices and roads to facilitate their construction process,” which is effectively spent on expanding Israeli settlement infrastructure in Palestine.
- Financial aid to the Israel Land Fund under the title “Assistance in marketing real estate exclusively for Jewish buyers,” which effectively leads to ideological ownership of Palestinian lands by Zionism and the transfer of immigrants from other countries to Israeli settlements.
- Financial aid to the Regavim Institute, which supports Israeli authorities in advancing military conflicts until achieving complete dominance and legitimizing settlements in Palestinian soil.2
Pegasus and Israel’s Cyber Industry
One of the Israeli regime’s revenue methods is the cyber industry, especially the development of surveillance and espionage technologies. In fact, the Israeli army serves as a hub for creating and expanding surveillance software companies. For example, the NSO Group, maker of Pegasus spyware with its headquarters in occupied Palestinian territories, has tested its repressive technologies on Palestinians living in various parts of the world. The presence of Pegasus spyware has been identified in at least 45 countries. 336 people, including human rights defenders, journalists, politicians, and others in 25 countries, have been targeted by this software, with examples by country below:
- Togo: An anti-corruption activist and human rights defender fighting for constitutional reform and elections was targeted by Pegasus.
- Spain: Dozens of Catalan separatists and politicians, including Spain’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister, were hacked by Pegasus.
- India: Pegasus targeted several journalists, human rights defenders, and opponents of Indian Prime Minister Modi through various methods, including planting false evidence on individuals’ mobile phones.
- Mexico: Pegasus targeted parents of one of the 43 students abducted by police. The most infected individuals in this country were journalists and human rights defenders.
- Palestine: Several human rights defenders and researchers active in organizations documenting the Israeli regime’s war crimes were targeted by Pegasus.3
Israeli Discriminatory Public Transportation System
The discrimination Zionists impose on Palestinians is also evident in the public transportation system in Palestine. In the occupied West Bank areas, bus tickets are not available for Palestinians, and a Palestinian citizen residing in the West Bank cannot use bus lines in Jerusalem and Israeli settlements! However, Israeli settlers can always use the bus lines!4
